Bleaching
teeth to "get them whiter" has become
one of the more popular procedures in the
dental office today. In general, bleaching
is a very safe and cost effective cosmetic
treatment for many children. Usually, the
best time to evaluate whether or not your
child is a good candidate for bleaching is
after completion of orthodontics, and all
permanent teeth are present.
Here, at Manhattan Pediatric Dental Group,
we have a special "arc light" that
allows us to bleach your child's teeth in
one visit to our office as well as take-home
bleaching trays. The visit with the special
“arc light” approximately 45 minutes.
As this is a cosmetic procedure, the bleaching
cannot guarantee you a specific result, but
often times there is at least a 2 to 5-shade
whiter color change. Bleaching can last for
some years, depending on whether or not you
consume acid containing foods or consume staining
foods such as teas, colas and fruit juices.
Bleaching will eventually fade, but still
delays the eventual dark ending that happens
to everyone. In those cases, it is relatively
simple to periodically rebleach when needed.
